Bangladesh's national, bank-backed venture platform.

Bangladesh Startup Investment Company PLC (BSIC) is the country's national venture investment platform. Its inaugural vehicle — ONKUR, Bangladesh Fund I — is a USD 35 million pool of institutional capital from 39 commercial banks, launched in May 2026 under Bangladesh Bank's mandate to channel 1% of net profits into startup financing.

BSIC operates as a commercially governed investment institution with an independent Investment Committee, deploying alongside global venture capital firms into Bangladesh's most ambitious startups. The platform is designed to compound over decades, with successive funds drawing on a renewable pool of bank capital and crowding in additional institutional investors.

Build the investment engine of a nationally significant institution.

This is not a role in a mature fund. It is a builder role — requiring genuine investment conviction, institutional ambition, and the ability to construct systems, culture, and a portfolio simultaneously.

The CIO leads the investment team, serves as the principal investment voice in IC deliberations, and is accountable end-to-end: from origination through exit.

Scope of the mandate.

01 — Investment Strategy
  • Own BSIC's investment thesis, sector focus, stage strategy, and portfolio construction — in alignment with the Board and IC.
  • Track macro, regulatory, and ecosystem developments across Bangladesh and comparable frontier markets to keep strategy ahead of consensus.
  • Identify structural advantages and thematic opportunities before they become crowded — fintech, healthtech, edtech, agritech, climate, B2B SaaS, logistics.
02 — Origination & Execution
  • Build a proprietary deal pipeline through founder relationships, co-investor networks, accelerators, and direct outreach.
  • Lead the full investment process — screening, due diligence, term sheet, negotiation, close — with rigour and urgency.
  • Drive investment memo and IC presentation quality across the team; present all investment cases with clarity and conviction.
  • Evaluate co-investment structures with global and regional funds; maintain BSIC's independent judgement and governance standards.
03 — Portfolio & Value Creation
  • Establish portfolio monitoring frameworks — KPIs, board-rights activation, milestone tracking, covenant management.
  • Engage actively with portfolio companies on strategy, fundraising, and operational matters as a genuine value-add partner.
  • Lead exit planning and execution — secondaries, strategic M&A, or IPO pathways — in coordination with the IC and Board.
04 — Team & Institution Building
  • Recruit, develop, and lead the investment team; set a high-bar investment culture from day one.
  • Design and implement repeatable investment processes, due diligence protocols, and deal-flow systems.
  • Represent BSIC at regional and global VC forums; build BSIC's co-investor reputation and sourcing brand.
  • Contribute to IC governance, LP reporting, and BSIC's external positioning as an institutional voice in Bangladesh's startup narrative.

A practitioner — not a theorist.

Someone who has built conviction over a decade of real investing and wants to apply it to one of the most dynamic and underserved ecosystems in the world.

Experience

  • 8+ years in VC, growth equity, PE or startup — with at least 5 in a principal investing or strategic role.
  • Track record of independently originating, structuring, and closing investments.
  • Experience building an investment function, team, or process from near-scratch.
  • Deep familiarity with Bangladesh or South/Southeast Asian markets preferred.

Operating Style

  • Founder-centric — builds trusted relationships without compromising investment discipline.
  • Operates with full ownership; decisive under uncertainty and accountable for outcomes.
  • Strong communicator — sharp writer, clear presenter, credible in board and founder rooms.

Investment Judgement

  • High-conviction investor — able to champion a deal and call it wrong with equal honesty.
  • Intellectually curious about markets, technology, and the problems founders are solving.

Motivation

  • Motivated by building something enduring, not optimising for short-term visibility.
  • Comfortable with the dual mandate of commercial returns and institutional impact.

Benchmarked to international VC standards.

BSIC offers a compensation package benchmarked to international VC standards — competitive base, performance-based incentives, and long-term value-creation components aligned with fund performance. The structure is designed to attract practitioners for whom the scale of the opportunity matters as much as the package.

A rare opportunity to build the investment engine of a nationally significant institution — and to help define the future of venture investing in Bangladesh.
